The Call!

14:41 - We received a call from Cathy letting us know that the reports of Carman’s most recent tests had arrived from Saint John. The team will be reviewing everything as soon as she can get that coordinated  and then she’ll call us again in the next few days.

19:29 - The sweetest phone call...A second call from Cathy, the team has reviewed the tests and this is THE CALL! They would like us to come to TO to be listed! We should take the weekend to think about it and get back to her at the first of the week. 

OMG - so just-what-we’ve-been-hoping-for exciting; a little scary; and a whole lot overwhelming all at the same time...why would we need to think about this?...And yet our conversation over the next couple of hours went from we’re going, now what do we have to do to be in the car and on the road...to...holy cow, are we really up for this? It boils down to the devil you know (how things are now and how this disease will continue to progress) vs. the devil you don’t (how things could be post-transplant). From what we saw of post-surgical patients during our week of assessment appointments...we’re definitely in! 


We've also been following the stories of two young ladies who've each had a transplant in recent months, one, (Heather, 25, a Cystic Fibrosis patient from New Brunswick; surgery 21Feb) and the other, like Carman an IPF patient (Hélène, 20 from Ontario; surgery 06Apr). We don't know either of these ladies personally, but without even knowing it, they have been strong forces for us to follow - both so young to be dealing with this major health issue - and both so brave!

Much to settle here at home before we go; lists to make (what to pack for our stay - potentially 4 seasons vs. what will fit in the car with us and equipment - and still leave room for my sister’s homebaked goodies package; sort out with Joanne what equipment we should take vs. what to rent when we get there; plans to put into action with our family, house sitter and wonderful neighbours...). Definitely packing a cork screw!

As for what future challenges we'll face...we’ll just handle those the same way we’re dealing with our situtation now...one day at a time.

So off we go into the next few weeks remaining calm while madly going about the busy, uncertain, confusing details...no worries...ommm...and so looking forward to future moments that "take our breath away"...figuratively, that is!
