When get everything packed up and bid farewell to Teddy, Dj and Matt, they promise to keep us updated on their travel today. The weather is dicey here in the city and we don't know what they'll face along the highway. Turns out the trip home to Ottawa took them over 7 hours! We are thankful they made it safely!

Later in the afternoon, we head over to TGH with plans to grab a bite to eat with Jessica & Brad. We visited in Jess’ room for awhile, but were interrupted by the wail of many sirens. A look out the window reveals that all attention is directed at Mount Sinai Hospital across the street. We can see EMS staff moving about along University Ave and in and out of the building. Fortunately, it turns out to be
either nothing of consequence or a false alarm. We are relieved to eventually see the trucks pull away from the curb and the street open up to regular traffic.
We then headed downstairs to see what we could scrounge to eat. The pickings are slim as most of the food court is closed for the holidays. We manage to find a couple of kiosks open and everyone picks their items of choice. It’s not a gourmet meal, but it’s more about maximizing the time with our friends Jess (who is stuck here for the weekend) and Brad (who must head back home shortly after the weekend).

Its been just 15 days since Jess received her transplant. She is doing marvelously well in her recovery and is down to just one chest tube - we are told it is not unusual for CF patients to need a bit longer for fluids to drain post-surgery. The thing that has hit me the most since Jess had her surgery is that she isn’t coughing. We can sit and chat for ages, uninterrupted by a coughing spell that wracks her body and sends her to the floor. We can go to the Atrium for a coffee (considerable walking involved) without stopping for a prolonged cough. We can have lunch, and she can eat (the whole thing) without having to stop to catch her breath or cough! This is amazing and wonderful!
Meanwhile, in Spain, our niece Rosemary and her fiance Rafa, are being married today. We're very excited for them and truly wish we could be there. Thank you so much for the photos!

I spent the afternoon with Jess, Carla & Roger at TGH. While she is anxious to be at home, the team are taking it slow with her, to make sure everything is A-1 before discharging her. I’m convinced they don’t want her back once they discharge her - she’s running the place you know!
They gave Carman and I a window catcher for Christmas. Their neighbour in NS makes them and has customized them with Jess’ blog name “Live Laugh Lungs” - it’s perfect and will always have an honoured spot wherever we are!

We decided to do her hair while I was there - it’s not possible to have a shower with all the surgical tubes and IV lines, so we made use of the shampoo caps, then put her hair up to keep it out of the way.

While we were busy at the hospital, there was a whole lotta R&R goin' on at home!
