This morning Paula and I head out for a bit of time together and get pedies - a little something to take the chill off the long winter - pretty toes!
When we return to the condo, Carman is just crawling out from between the warm flannel sheets to greet the early afternoon. We have a gym in our building - very well equipped actually. Carman has a homework card for Physio, things he should do everyday over the holiday break from routine, to maintain the muscle mass he has worked so hard to build. Paula plans to be his coach on Thursday when he heads to the Treadmill Room to resume his regular workout routine...and decides they should practice today (but doesn’t tell Carman just yet). She asks him to show her where the gym is so he takes her downstairs...remember those two flights of stairs one has to climb to get to the elevator when leaving the gym?
Carman gives her the tour of the gym, remarking at how well appointed it is. So she suggests they try out the treadmills since they’re “already down here”. No place to hide, can’t outrun her, so he concedes and off they go for a 20 minute trek!
This goes very well, he feels pretty good afterward and they head to the stairs to return to our unit. Turns out there are only 9 steps (it just looked like a mountain from the bottom) and he manages them pretty well. He is out of breath at the top step, but none the worse for the effort! Well done Paula!
In the evening, our friends Lynette & Henry drive in from Oakville for a visit. We get caught up on family events since the end of November when we visited at their home. Alas, we are getting memory deficient about capturing photos of our visits, so this one is of the 4 of us back in November (sorry Paula). What is it that you do for your lung health? How about for your heart?
Please don't take these precious organs for granted and double please - absolutely don't neglect or misuse them!
Of the estimated 34,200,000 people in our Canadian poplulation, 1,309 have died so far this year (it’s only February people!) of chronic respiratory diseases. Can’t relate? How about this...as of midnight, 20 people died of chronic respiratory diseases and another 122 from chronic cardiovascular diseases.
Here is a fun clip prepared by the Ontario Lung Association to promote lung health and their Breathers United campaign - just click - Breathe.
You will never realize how important it is to breathe...until you can’t!
