Another Record Day

17Jul
Up, up and further up goes the temperature and the humidity! It was already 32C at 9:30 this morning and almost unbearable on our balcony, even in the shade. Carman lasted about 15 minutes and I went inside after about an hour, feeling like I’d just been caught in a downpour, sticky wicky!
Everyone was feeling the effects of the weather at physio, even us coaches were looking wilted! Some of our friends opted to stay home today, as our PT said, it’s not about making you feel worse, so if it’s too hot and uncomfortable don’t push it. We chatted about the option of dialing back the programs (fewer reps or lower weights on each activity; reducing the treadmill speed or the tension level on the bike, etc.). At home, a can of soup or jug of liquid detergent can suffice as a weight for some bicep or tricep reps and resistance bands work well for quad work. So Carman did his full program, with regular reps and weights and looked like he was going to fall asleep on the bike!
Today we spent some time getting to know David, whom we’ve seen a few times in our new time slot. Carman insisted I owed a toonie to the Toonies for Talking Tin because David was on the bike while we chatted! Now the coaches and post-transplantees are allowed to talk, the pre-trans candidates are not...but I did indeed ask David some questions which he graciously answered while biking...so I let Carman pay up for me, since I had paid his debt last Friday. :o)    David’s twin was transplanted 4 years ago, golfs regularly; and has competed in several transplant games since. Needless to say, David, like the rest of us, is anxious for his turn!

Carman had a call from our buddy Steve today; he and Marianne are heading this way on Thursday, so we’ll meet for dinner. Ron and Wanda are coming late morning and we’re working on arranging a visit with Krys and Brian on Wednesday. We look forward to these visits with our friends, it gives us something to look forward to on our non-physio days, breaks up the waiting and we get to spend time with someone other than each other! While we enjoy one another’s company, 24/7 of just each other...and soon we’re ignoring one another and each talking to ourselves!
I had my second yoga class this evening. One of the ladies who lives in our building is a wonderful instructor and graciously shares her talents with several of us eager students. There is nothing like devoting even 60 minutes in a day to focussing your mind and breathing, giving your muscles a deep, rejuvenating stretch and then relaxing into your mat and hearing Sylvia’s soothing voice guide you into letting gravity take all the knots away!  Namaste...and cool thoughts.
