Our friends Fred & Wendy were in town from London today (reporting for duty to watch the grandkids later today) so were able to fit us in for a visit and lunch at The Blake. They arrived bearing gifts of pecan tarts and some spices. It was great to catch up on what retirement had brought them...a 2 month road trip south to Arizona, across to Florida, then up the eastern coast before coming back home to Ontario, lots of fun and no regrets!

We all enjoyed our lunch at The Blake and then had to hustle off to physio after giving Fred & Wendy directions to the MLG Loblaws. They walked down for a tour and were glad of it, appreciating the wow factor of the deli, bakery and wall o’ cheese! 

Oh yes, bonus! We remembered the book and photo this visit - yeah!

It was a tough go for Carman at physio today - his O2 kept dropping below 90. The humidity makes it tough on everyone really. Our PT cut short his bike workout, suggested he take extra rests between exercises and dial down the speed on the treadmill - she gave him the choice on the tread, saying "you'll be mad if I make you quit, so you can either do that or dial it back and finish  if you'd rather".  Skinny, but still stubborn - he dialed it back and finished!

What she doesn’t know is that he is very, very motivated by his mocha frappa crappa treat when he does the whole program! 

We chatted with Kristy & Derek briefly, to find out that her Dad’s birthday bash in Niagara-on-the-Lake went very well and they really enjoyed their few days away from the city.

Exchanged texts with our friend Jess today, and we’re still cheering from the sidelines for her to get well and get out soon! No visiting while she still has an infection, we can’t risk her sharing anything like that with Carman. Hoping for her to be released by the end of this week so we can make plans to get together again soon! 

Wedding Limo?

Wedding day today for Sonya & Jason! A fine day, sunny and hot but with a break in the humidity! We make our way to the church for the 1:30 ceremony...to find the street closed for construction. After circling the block we finally take the back way and enter thru the “exit only” into the parking lot. With good humour, Father Joe works the torn up streets into the service, suggesting to Sonya & Jason that like the work going on outside, marriage is a construction that takes care and constant work by both parties. He then tells the story of the young bride who questioned her priest for tips on calming her nerves in order to get thru the ceremony. He confidently tells her to remember 3 things:

1. When you arrive at the church focus on the aisle, just put one foot in front of the other and you’ll make your way down the aisle no problem.
2. As you make your way down the aisle, focus on the alter...that’s where you’re headed, so don’t take your eyes off the target
3. Remember when you get to the alter you’ll find him (your groom) waiting for you with love in his eyes.

After a moment of thought, the priest added, “These three things are good to focus on for after the wedding too, no matter what happens before, just think...after we’re married Aisle Alter Him!”

This got a good chuckle from the assembly of married folk!

It was a lovely service, Sonya looked gorgeous, Tony (Dad) was teary, Elisa (Mom) was exceptionally elegant and Jason just couldn’t stop smiling! 

After a trip home for a quick nap, we were off to the Marconi Club for the reception - a true Italian 6 course extravaganza (even pacing yourself, you’re stuffed because everything tastes so good you just can’t stop yourself from eating it!). I strapped the stroller over my shoulder and we hit the dance floor for 2 waltzes, then were content to watch the little girls (4-8) bust a move for a while. Man, we could never do the moves they seem to have down pat!
