We had a Very Important Personal visit today, Carman’s sister, Joyce, came via a combination of car, Go train, subway and fancy footwork (no planes this time). I walked up to the subway station to meet her (like me, she enjoys her walks), then we took the long way home (to give Carman time to shower and shave), stopping at Maple Leaf Gardens Loblaws for a catch-up over coffee, a little tour of the store and to pick up a treat for Carman...a fancy dessert for lunch (thanks Joyce!).
Along the way we noticed Pride Colours being displayed everywhere in preparation for this weekend’s festivities (and parade on Sunday). TD has installed a banner on the side of one of the condo towers, that must be about 10 storeys high!...and their logo is even discreetly placed at the bottom so the rainbow is showcased and not the logo. Many balconies are sporting both rainbow and Maple Leaf flags and most of the storefronts have great rainbow displays using flags, clothing, gift bags and even wine glasses filled with who knows what in the rainbow colours.
After lunch Joyce and Carman did some balcony bonding and talked sports (Joyce is a fan of them all, and attended the LPGA in Waterloo last Saturday). I took advantage of her being here with Carman and walked down to the Yonge Street Future Shop (about 1 km). We’ve found we need a printer here, as both our insurance company and provincial health program want documents via fax, instead of email (which we were well prepared to do, since I installed a scan app on my phone). I found a printer that can recieve print jobs wirelessly or via air (great for Carman’s iPad or an iPhone), copies, faxes, scans, reads photo cards directly and does the cha-cha. Ha, ha, no cha-cha...just checking to see if you were reading every word :o)
The printer itself is compact enough but the box it comes in (with all the protective packaging) is 28x48x52cm. It weights only 11.3 Kg but is an awkward size to carry. Thank goodness for supersized Costco bags...it fit neatly inside, and the bag has extra long straps, so I could easily carry it home! Now to get it set up and working...
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit with Joyce and are so grateful for the book and magazines she brought! We were able to do a trade with a book we had both finished, so sent her home with James Patterson's "A Miracle on the 17th Green", which my Mom had sent to Carman last week. We're sure she'll enjoy it as much as we did and look forward to future exchanges!
We received a parcel in the mail today, from friends Dianne & Guy, in NB...it's sitting here on the table begging to be opened...but I must wait for sleeping beauty to cease snoring...wouldn't be fair to open it without him!...what shall I do to wake him? pound a pot, tickle his toes, a wet willie in the ear...maybe his old wake-up-the-teenager trick, a sloppy ice cold washcloth in the face..or maybe I'll just read a bit to distract myself :o)
