The day started early with a call bark from Teddy to let me know the sun was on the rise and we should get outside to watch it! I took a quick look out the window and sure enough he was right, and I’d better hurry...once it breaks the surface it doesn’t take long! At 5:16 we’d already missed the first glow coming up over the horizon line, casting the tall buildings of downtown into shadowed relief! We sat on the deck together and had a glorious lightshow spread before us to start the day.
We were both mesmorized by the beauty until someone else nearby noticed it too and began to sing! Well if there is anything that can make Teddy come to attention it’s a bird chirping! Funny, the gulls and crows - he just wants to chase; but the robins and chickadees cause him to cock his head as if he is trying to catch the message. This very enjoyable time together earned him half of his breakfast and a nap until it was time for a walk in the park with his Mommy and me.
We headed out around 8 and sure enough as soon as we turned onto the main road leading to the off-leash park, Teddy started the prance of “excitement beyond measure” back and forth in the back seat, accompanying himself with a whiny tune about seeing his four legged friends and running wild thru the trees!
It wasn’t too busy at the park, but there were several friends to play chase with (his favorite teasing game because no dog can catch him!). It was a beautiful morning and Dj and I enjoyed our walk and being at the park but could have done nicely without walking into a cloud of gnats on three different occassions along the way! The drive home included a pitstop for coffees at The Second Cup and a chocolate croissant treat for Dad...
There’s nothing like a drive in the rain. For the most part we had anything from a fine mist to gentle rain all the way to Belleville at which point the rain let up for about half an hour. We found it again though and by the time we reached TO, we were thinking there couldn’t possibly be more water up there in those clouds! Our drive down the Don Valley Parkway was very smooth, with the only slow down being the merge onto it. We then came to a resounding stop when we exited onto Yonge to find traffic in a snarl, with police redirecting flow due to a closure at Front St. and flooding at the Union Station Subway...yes M’am...the city had been dumped on! We inched our way along, which gave me opportunity to snap some pics of topless buildings (roof lines lost in the low ceiling) and send a photo of the Hockey Hall of Fame off to Tyler. There is a long-standing family debate over whether or not we took him there on one of his visits as a young child...everyone seems to remember it but him and there is no photo evidence to prove them right (they swear there are pics but they are stored in the scrap booking files). Well, although he did recognize the building, he still didn’t remember being inside so the debate continues...
Thankfully, we reached our hotel without accident and were able to engage one of the bellman to help with all the equipment and bags. He and Carman headed inside (thank goodness for canopied entry ways) and I headed to the parking garage. Now at this point I should explain that the distance is 1/2 block and the time of day is 5:45pm and the location is downtown Toronto. So you’ll understand when I say that a half hour later I joined Carman in the lobby and we headed to the room! Daniel was very helpful with everything and even went to get some ice for us before leaving us to get settled. We enjoyed a liesurely supper in one of the lobby restaurants as we watched from our window seat while the rains came (again with ferocity) and the wind howled and blew umbrellas inside out and sped small children on their way down the street!
Carman loves to drive and its one of the few things he loves to do and is still able to do. We reflected on the trip while waiting for our food and he remarked that he had done the whole drive...and even with the tank changes in the pouring rain along the way it had indeed been a very good day!
